Where It Fits

The medium grade is a good choice for keying, scuffing and surface prep before paint, plus removing raised grain and light flatting. Sia lists the 7990 blocks for removing old varnish, paint and stains, removing raised wood fibres and rust, and keying surfaces so the next coat bonds well. The colour coding makes it easy to grab the right grade at a glance.

Who Uses It

Painters and decorators, cabinet and millwork shops, window and door makers, marine refinishers and drywall crews use the Sia 0070.1255.01 on hardwood, softwood, old lacquer and paint, PU, polyester, UV and water-based lacquers. The 10 pack is handy for smaller jobs, a service van or trying the grade before buying in bulk.

Tips for Longer Block Life

Let the abrasive do the work and keep pressure even across the face of the block. When sanding wet, rinse the block often to clear slurry, then squeeze it out and let it dry before storing. Rotate to a fresh side when one face loads up or stops cutting, and keep fine and medium blocks apart so coarser grit does not end up on a finish.
