Sia 5163.3687.1000 Siaair 7940 6 Inch Disc, 1000 Grit

The Sia 5163.3687.1000 is a 6 inch (150 mm) Siaair 7940 foam sanding disc in 1000 grit, sold 10 discs per box. 1000 grit is a very fine grit for refinement. The disc combines aluminium oxide abrasive with a knitted fabric and a pressure-equalising foam backing, so it follows contours, curves and profiles and leaves a low scratch depth.

Where 1000 Grit Fits

Use 1000 to refine painted surfaces, level small defects and start preparing high-gloss surfaces for polishing. Step up from 800, then continue to 1500 and 2000 before compound. The Siaair range runs from 240 to 4000, so one system covers the whole job from primer to polish.

Who Uses It

Automotive refinishers, aerospace and composite shops, boat builders working with gelcoat and solid surface fabricators use the Sia 5163.3687.1000 for refining paint and starting polishing prep. Sia lists it for lacquers, paints, plastics, acrylic glass, gelcoat and composites. It is not suited to glass, ceramic lacquers or stone.

Tips for Best Results

Wipe the panel and check your progress often, especially on edges and body lines. Damp sanding gives the best results and reduces clogging. Rinse and reuse the disc until it stops cutting evenly, then replace it so you do not chase a patchy scratch.
