Sia 6736.2380.0240 1948 siaflex 5 Inch Disc, 240 Grit

The Sia 6736.2380.0240 is a 5 inch (125 mm) 1948 siaflex hook and loop sanding disc in 240 grit, packed 100 discs per box. This fine grade is used for final smoothing of primer and sanding between coats of paint or lacquer. The highly flexible latex paper backing follows curves and profiles, and the disc works wet or dry.

Where It Fits in the Grit Sequence

Sia lists 1948 siaflex for random orbital sanders, orbital sanders and hand sanding with a block. The hook and loop back mounts on any 5 inch hook-face pad. Use 320 grit next for keying lacquer or for a finer surface under a gloss topcoat. Never jump more than one or two grit steps at a time, or the coarser scratches will show once paint or clear coat goes on.

Who Uses It

Sia designed 1948 siaflex for automotive refinishing, aerospace and building interior work. Body shops use it on body filler, primer filler, paints and old and new lacquers. It also handles GRP and composites, polyester gelcoat, aluminum, steel and plastics. Cabinet and interior shops use it on solid wood and between coats of lacquer. Sia does not recommend it for glass or stone.

Tips for Best Results

Keep pressure light and let the sander do the work. Heavy pressure builds heat and loads the disc. When wet sanding, keep the surface wet and wipe it often to check progress. Replace the disc as soon as it stops cutting evenly, since a dull disc polishes instead of sanding. Store boxes flat in a dry place so the paper stays flat on the pad.
