Sia 9980.9463.0500 Siacarbon 7241 6 Inch Diamond Disc, 500 Grit
The Sia 9980.9463.0500 is a Sia 7241 siacarbon 6 inch (150 mm) siafast hook and loop disc in 500 grit, made with diamond grit on a cloth backing. Siacarbon is designed for very hard surfaces, and at 500 grit it is suited to fine sanding of mineral and solid surface materials and fine keying of lacquers.

Where It Fits
Sia lists siacarbon for scratch-resistant lacquers, aluminium, cathodic dip and epoxy primers, solid surface and mineral materials, plastics and composites. These are surfaces that wear out a standard aluminium oxide disc quickly. Sia rates the line for very long life and a very high removal rate. It is not intended for glass or stone. The siafast hook and loop backing fits standard 6 inch hook-faced pads.
Who Uses It
Auto body and refinish shops, aerospace and composite shops, and countertop and furniture producers use siacarbon where coatings and materials are too hard for conventional abrasives.
Sanding Tips
Keep pressure light and the pad flat; diamond grain cuts well without force. When sanding wet, keep the surface evenly wet and wipe the slurry off often to check progress. Work through the grits in order without skipping more than one step, so each grit removes the scratches of the last. Clean the disc between jobs, as a clean diamond disc keeps cutting. Store the Sia 9980.9463.0500 flat and dry so the backing stays flat.
