In a grit sequence, 120 grit usually follows 80 grit stock removal and comes before 150 or 180 grit finishing.

Tips for Best Results

Check the direction arrow on the inside of the belt and install it to run that way. Track the belt before loading parts, and start with light pressure. Feed parts across the full belt width so it wears evenly. Clean loaded belts with a belt cleaning stick on wood work. Store belts hanging or loosely coiled in a dry place, away from heat and humidity, so the cloth does not stretch or curl. Replace the belt when it glazes or stops cutting, rather than adding pressure.

Choosing the Grit

Pick the coarsest grit that removes the defect, then step up one grit at a time, so each belt removes the scratch of the one before. Skipping too many steps leaves deep scratches that show under paint or finish. On metal, keep parts moving to avoid heat marks and discolouration.
