Festool 495209 FS-SP 5000/T Splinter Guard for Guide Rails

The Festool 495209 is the FS-SP 5000/T, a transparent, self-adhesive replacement splinter guard for the cutting edge of Festool guide rails. Its rubber lip holds the material down right at the cut, which cuts down splintering on the show face, including on angled cuts.

How It Works

Peel and stick the strip along the rail edge, then make the first cut. The saw trims the strip to its exact blade line, so from then on the edge marks precisely where the cut will land. Line the edge up with your pencil marks and cut. Because the strip is clear, you can see the marks through it.

When to Replace It

The guard is a wear part. Replace it when it chips, lifts, or no longer matches your blade, for example after switching to a saw or blade with a different cut line. Clean the old adhesive off the rail first so the new strip sits flat and straight. Press it down firmly along its full length before the first trim cut.

Storage

Keep the roll in a dry, room-temperature spot and out of direct sun so the adhesive stays fresh. Store spare strips flat or loosely coiled; a tight kink can leave a wave in the edge that shows up as a ragged cut line.
