Description

VSM 130261 XF885 5 x 7/8 Inch Fibre Disc, 120 Grit

The VSM 130261 is a VSM XF885 CERAMICS Plus fibre disc, 5 inch diameter with a 7/8 inch arbor hole, in 120 grit. It is built for high stock removal during bevelling or weld seam processing, and for cool grinding on stainless steel, superalloys, aluminium and unalloyed steel.

Features and Specifications

  • Series: VSM XF885 CERAMICS Plus
  • Size: 5 inch (125 mm) diameter, 7/8 inch (22.23 mm) arbor hole
  • Grit: 120, a fine grade for blending and surface preparation before finishing or coating
  • Grain: microcrystalline ceramic with an optimised self-sharpening effect
  • Bond and coat: full-resin bonded, with a grinding-active TOP SIZE layer for cooler grinding
  • Backing: form-resistant vulcanised fibre
  • Pressure: made for medium to high contact pressure on hand-held machines
  • Colour: red-brown
  • Packaging: 50 discs per box

How It Works

The self-sharpening ceramic grain keeps breaking down into fresh cutting edges, so the VSM 130261 keeps cutting instead of glazing over. The TOP SIZE layer reduces heat at the work, which matters on stainless steel and other heat-sensitive metals where heat tint and distortion are a problem. Mount the disc on an angle grinder with a backing pad rated for the grinder speed.

Who Uses It

Metal fabricators, welders, structural and pipe shops, millwrights and maintenance crews use fibre discs for weld removal, bevelling, edge breaking, rust and scale removal and general surface preparation. A ceramic disc suits shops that grind a lot of stainless steel or hard alloys.

Tips for Grinding

Hold the grinder at a shallow angle, about 15 to 25 degrees, and keep the disc moving so you do not dig a groove. Let the ceramic grain work under steady pressure; too little pressure lets the grain glaze, too much overheats the work. Step down in grit to remove scratches from the previous grade. Store discs flat in a dry place, because fibre backings can cup in humid conditions. Always wear eye and face protection and use the grinder guard.
