The Festool 492286 is the ST-STF 125/8-M8-J W-HT, a 5 inch (125 mm) soft sanding pad with regular density for most general purpose finish sanding. It suits universal use on plain and arced surfaces and threads onto sanders with an M8 connection.

Where It Fits

The Festool 492286 replaces a worn soft pad on an M8-thread 5 inch Festool sander. The soft density follows slight curves and contours while still sanding flat panels evenly, which is why it is the everyday pad for most finish work.

Who Uses It

Cabinet and furniture shops, automotive refinishers and painters use a soft 5 inch pad for sanding bare wood, scuffing between coats and preparing primer for topcoat. Keep a hard pad for flat surfaces and narrow edges, and a soft pad like this one for general finish sanding.

Tips for Long Pad Life

Check the hook and loop face before each job. When the StickFix hooks wear down, discs start to shift or fly off and the scratch pattern suffers. Brush dust off the pad, store it flat and away from heat, and never run the sander without an abrasive fitted, because the hook face wears quickly against the work. Festool also advises that pad foam becomes brittle with age, so check the foam for wear before use.
