The Festool 494938 is a pack of 300 solid beech DOMINO tenons, size 5 x 19 x 30 mm, made as loose (floating) tenons for the Festool DOMINO DF 500 joiner. Each tenon fits a mortise cut by the matching 5 mm DOMINO cutter, giving a strong, self-aligning glue joint for furniture, cabinetry and frame work. The 300-count pack is a practical size for a shop that uses this tenon on regular jobs or wants to keep it on hand.

Where This Size Fits

Small tenons like this suit thin stock and light assemblies: face frames, drawer boxes, small boxes, picture frames and narrow rails where a larger mortise would weaken the part. Set the DOMINO depth so the two mortises together are slightly deeper than the tenon is long, and match the cutter diameter to the 5 mm tenon thickness. The tenons work in both solid wood and plywood.

Tips for Clean Joints

Dry-fit the first joint of a job before you glue. Put glue in the mortise walls rather than only on the tenon, then close and clamp the joint promptly. Keep the box closed and store tenons in a dry place so they do not take on moisture and swell, which makes them hard to seat.
