How It Works

On the first cut the blade slices its own slot in the guard, giving a zero-clearance opening around the blade. The guard then backs up the wood fibres at the cut line, so the visible face stays clean. Once the slot widens from wear or blade changes, fit a fresh guard.

Typical Uses

Use the Festool 490120 whenever a clean show face matters: fast, fine sawing with clean edges, reworking furniture parts that are already finished, and parquet cut-outs such as curved cuts around posts or heating pipes. It also helps on veneered panels, melamine and laminate.

Tips

Choose a fine, sharp blade for finished faces and let the saw cut at its own pace. Mark on the show face, keep the base flat on the work, and replace the guard as soon as the edge of the slot starts to break down. Store the spare guards flat in the jigsaw case so they stay clean and do not warp.

Choosing the Right Guard

Check your jigsaw model before ordering. This pack fits the PS 300 and PSB 300 and the Carvex PS(C) 400/420 and PSB(C) 400/420 models. Other Festool saws use different guards.
