Where 180 Grit Fits

180 is a fine grit for finishing passes on wood and for blending and light finishing on metal. Step up from 120 or 150, then move to hand sanding or a finer grit if the finish calls for it. Typical jobs include surface preparation, finishing, blending and deburring.

Tips for Longer Belt Life

Check the arrow on the inside of the belt and install it in the direction shown so the joint does not catch. Track the belt so it runs centred before you touch the work. Keep the sander moving and let its weight do the cutting; leaning on it builds heat and glazes the grain. Clean a loaded belt with an abrasive cleaning stick, and hang spare belts in a dry place so they stay flat.
