    How to pick the right sanding disc

    1. Diameter – match your sander pad: 5-inch or 6-inch (or 225 mm for drywall sanders).
    2. Backing – hook and loop discs change in seconds and can be reused; PSA (sticky-back) discs sit flatter and cost less per disc. See Hook and Loop vs PSA Sanding Discs.
    3. Hole pattern – line up the holes with your pad for dust extraction. Multi-hole discs fit most pads. See Sanding Disc Hole Patterns.
    4. Grit – 40 to 80 for removal, 120 to 180 for smoothing, 220 to 400 for finishing, and 600 to 4000 for paint and polish prep. See our sanding grit guide.
